The purpose of this symposium is to address a large number of court proceedings and expertise for defects on buildings, identified unforeseen work, various deviations from dimensions allowed by building permit, breach of contractual obligations to buyers of apartments, as well as illegal construction in general, which in the last 20 years reached an incredibly high level. The cause of this situation largely relates to overly lenient provisions of the existing Law on Spatial Planning and Construction, starting from inspections, through provisions relating to technical examinations or the “certificate of use”, which unfortunately became a substitute for a demanding technical review; to frequently unclear definition of responsibilities for defects in building contracts; to designer’s and expert supervisor’s issues with contractors, etc.

A broad overview of all aspects of implementation of projects will be presented during the symposium, with an emphasis on substandard examples and bad details in performance as well as consequences arising from such practices (dissatisfaction of residential and public buildings users, registration of irresponsible investors and contractors, court proceedings arising from them, examples of expertise of defects, ways to repair poor construction, etc.).

The composition of speakers and topics will try to cover all important issues in this matter, and present consequences that in many cases arose from this unsatisfactory situation within our profession – in the period from Croatian independence until today.

Within the symposium Siniša Radaković, on behalf of GI group, will hold a lecture on the “Impact of Market Behavior of Participants in the Construction on the Construction Quality”.
