The remediation project contributes to the objectives of the Operational Programme ‘Environment protection’ 2007 to 2013 as it will repair unarranged landfills and improve the condition of groundwater and surface water, human health and the environment as a whole. The primary goal of rehabilitating the dumpsite was the prevention of pollution of the aquifer and the spread of contamination.
GI’s task was to complete the technical and financial supervision and technical consulting inrepair of waste landfill on the location of Trebež landfill, the waste was disposed of in an old gravel pit and the waste has been since then in direct contact with the groundwater. The landfill area is located on the inflow area about 2 km away of Strmec water wells. Therefore, the primary goal of rehabilitating the landfill was the prevention of pollution of the aquifer and the spread of contamination. The basic concept was to permanently prevent the possible spread of contamination from waste in the surrounding soil and groundwater based on the arrangement of the landfill, its overlapping and closing, the construction of all related systems (degassing, stormwater drainage, hydrant network, internal roads, horticultural arrangement) and performance diaphragm around the landfill, construction of the lagoon and the treatment system and construction of the pumping systems for the excess water in the diaphragm which had to be disposed.
